New Orleans - St. Patrick's Day Parade 2014

St. Patrick's Day is not something I ordinarily celebrate, and 2014 was no different. My sister and I had gone to a different part of town that day to run errands, then decided to stop for lunch. We pretty much forgot about the parade that would be passing right by our door late that afternoon, and made it back only minutes before our street was closed.

There were actually more people in costumes than I saw walking around during Mardi Gras. Strangely enough, they seemed to be in groups of costumes.
I get the green and orange ones, but I'm part Irish and I never heard anything about bees being important.
When I saw the crowds that had gathered, I didn't much like our chances for getting a parking spot. But we were blessed with a small miracle and scored one right in front of our building. We hurriedly brought our groceries upstairs then came right back down to watch the parade. Since the street was so crowded, we just got right back in the car and rolled the windows down to watch. It worked great.

The nearby shops had all gotten in the act.

 And so had the dogs

There were big groups..
 And individuals.

Carriages drawn by one...

...or two, horses.
Or a truck.

Open carriages...

 And covered ones.

And a lovely green classic car to finish it all off.
