Locarno, Switzerland

am so enthralled by this day at a lake in Switzerland, I am doing this post on my phone, rather than wait until I have a less insane method at my disposal.

Beach days have never been what I associate with Switzerland, and yet here I sit, on a bench overlooking a tiny patch of pebble covered sand. And I can't stop staring at the mountains on the other side of a decent sized lake filled with sailboats.

I'm not really enthused about the mostly modern architecture in the area where we're staying. Although it's not far from the Italian border, so there are older areas with lovely old buildings.

Behind my little beach bench, though, is a beautiful reproduction. And the views from within must be fabulous, situated as it is with the lake on one side and some kind of castle  on another.

Still, we don't need such luxury to be happy. Just €16 spent on a paddle boat with a slide, followed by unlimited time at the beach, makes for a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable afternoon.

This is the last stop before heading back to London so Adrienne and the kids can go home. And it was Adrienne who chose it, inspired by a photo on Pinterest which is so gorgeous that I wanted to see the location, too. We go there tomorrow, so I am expecting to have something even more glorious to share.

In the meantime, this is turning out to be a perfect way to end their trip. The kids have missed a lot of their sunshine and swimming this summer, so I'm glad we gave them a few stops where they could indulge. But though I didn't expect it, this has been the most breathtaking.

I have no idea how this will format, and I can't see much in the thumbnails. But I hope you get at least some idea of the beauty here. It's a shame there's no way to let you feel this fabulous breeze.
