Peggy Sue's Diner - Barstow CA

Pink & turquoise fifties diner with curved sign saying Peggy Sue's Diner

Don't let anyone tell you Barstow CA has little to offer, not when there is a veritable heaven of kitsch in Peggy Sue's Diner. I'm not even a huge fan of 50s memorabilia, and I still found lots to appreciate.

Weirdly, though, there some kind of dinosaur park in the back. I'm not quite sure how that fits the 50s theme.
We didn't take the time to investigate it, although the little seating area back there looked like a nice place to while away a bit of time.

Oh yeah, the food wasn't bad and was pretty reasonably priced. But terrible food blogger that I am, it didn't even occur to me to photograph it when so much visual stimulation was calling me from everywhere my eyes happened to land.

There was, naturally, a lot for sale.

And while I wasn't really tempted to buy anything, that was probably due to my current extreme minimalist lifestyle, which requires everything to fit into two budget airline sized carry-ons.

Because there were some decent quality articles on display here, and a lot of it could actually be useful, which is my favorite type of souvenir.
It was really one of the most well-done gift shops I'd ever seen.

And it wasn't strctly limited to the fifties.

What I loved best, though, was the decor.

Most of it was truly authentic from the period.
And it was displayed with a sense of humor.

Nobody Gets in to See the Wizard.I loved the sign on this door, it really reinforces the Do Not Enter message.
And, after gasping in surprise, I laughed SO hard at what I found in the women's restroom. (FYI, he's not real.)

Everything at Peggy Sue's 50s Diner in Barstow is unabashedly over the top, and meant to be enjoyed in good fun.
If you have to make a pit stop in the middle of the desert between Las Vegas and San Diego, it's not a bad place to relax. Particularly, if you are into boondocking with RVs, as we are. Because Peggy Sue's has a huge parking lot to welcome RVs and big rigs.

We stopped for dinner, stayed the night and were very well satisfied with our short stop. And though I have no photos to show for it, I can recommend the bacon cheeseburger and vanilla milkshake.
